  • Apply for a Northern Ireland Electoral Identity Card

  • Use this form to apply for an Electoral Identity card. The Identity card is for the sole use of voting in person at elections. You must be aged 18 or over and already registered to vote to apply.

    You can only apply for an electoral identity card if you plan to vote in person at a future election. Before you apply check if you already have any accepted photo identification that you can be used to vote - full details are online at https://www.eoni.org.uk/Vote/Voting-at-a-polling-place.

    To apply for an Electoral Identity Card, we will ask you for:

    • your current registered voting address
    • a recent digital photo
    • your Electoral Office Digital Registration Number
    • your National Insurance Number
  • Are you registered to vote?

  • How do you plan to vote?

  • Do you have a UK, Ireland or European Economic Area driving licence?

  • Countries in the European Economic Area

  • Do you have a UK or Ireland passport?

  • Countries in the European Union

     

  • Can you bring any of the following to the polling station?

  • You must be registered to vote at your current address to apply for an Electoral Identity Card

  • To register to vote please go to https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

  • You must be registered to vote to use this service

  • When you have received your Certificate of Registration then you can apply for an Electoral Identity Card

  • You do not need an Electoral Identity Card

  • As you have specified you intend to vote via post or by proxy or you do not intend to vote, you do not require an Electoral Identity Card.

    If you require an additional form of photo identification the following services are available:

    • Post Office EasyID which can be applied for in branch or online at https://www.postoffice.co.uk/identity/easyid
    • Citizen Card which can be applied for online at http://www.citizencard.com/ 
  • You do not need an Electoral Identity Card

  • As you have specified you have a form of photographic identification that is accepted at a polling station, you do not require an Electoral Identity Card

  • An Electoral Identity Card is only intended to be used for identification for voting in person at a polling station.     

  • Things you need before you start your application

  • To apply for an Electoral Identity Card, we will ask you for:

    • your current registered voting address
    • your Digital Registration Number (you can check it at www.eoni.org.uk/drn) 
    • your date of birth
    • your National Insurance Number
    • a recent digital photo of yourself
    • validation of your photo from another ID or your elected representative 

     

    Your Digital Photo

    You will need a recent digital photo of your head and shoulders. Your digital photo must be:

    • clear and in focus
    • in colour and against a plain, light-coloured background
    • your true likeness, with no photoshop or filters
    • at least 600×750 pixels (JPG, PNG or GIF format — min 50KB, max 20MB

    In your photo you must:

    • face forwards, looking straight at the camera,
    • be alone, with no other objects or people and have a plain expression,
    • have eyes open and visible, with no hair in front of them,
    • not wear sunglasses, normal glasses are fine if you wear them,
    • not have a head covering (apart from religious or medical reasons),
    • not include a hat or headphones, and
    • not have ‘red-eye’, glare or shadows over your face
